Market Reaction to Federal Reserve Commentary and Company‑Specific Developments

European Indices Gain Amid Fed Chair’s Hawkish Speech

European equity markets closed higher on Friday, 28 August 2026, as investors processed the Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s remarks at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium. Warsh signalled that inflation remains elevated and that further tightening may be necessary if easing does not materialise. The FedWatch Tool from CME Group reflected a sharp rise in the probability of a 25 bp rate hike next month—from 35.4 % yesterday to 59.5 % after Warsh’s statement.

The pan‑European Stoxx 600 advanced 0.51 %, the German DAX rose 0.77 % to a new closing high, the UK FTSE 100 gained 0.29 %, and France’s CAC 40 moved up 0.98 %. Across the region, most national indices finished on a positive note, with the exception of Iceland, which closed weak.

DAX Highlights: Utility and Energy Sector Performance

Within the German benchmark, the utility and energy sector contributed significantly to the upward trend. E.ON, a major operator of energy networks and customer solutions in Europe, advanced between 1 % and 1.8 % alongside peers such as RWE, Deutsche Telekom and Siemens. The sector’s gains were supported by broader strength in industrials and technology stocks, including BMW, Mercedes‑Benz, and Infineon Technologies.

Import price inflation data from Destatis revealed that Germany’s import prices accelerated in July, largely driven by higher intermediate goods and energy costs. Import prices rose 6.8 % year‑on‑year, while export prices increased 4.2 %. The labour market remained stable with a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 6.4 % in August.

E.ON’s Corporate Finance Activity

In addition to the market backdrop, E.ON announced that White & Case is advising the company on a green bond issuance of over 140 million CHF. The issuance aligns with E.ON’s strategy to finance sustainable infrastructure projects and expand its renewable portfolio. The bond will be part of the company’s broader capital‑raising efforts, which aim to support its operations across more than 51 million customers in Europe.
