Lake Victoria Gold Ltd. Advances Imwelo Project Toward Production
Lake Victoria Gold Ltd. (TSXV: LVG) announced the completion of key field‑data studies at its Imwelo gold project in Tanzania on 26 January 2026. The company reported that geotechnical drilling and specific‑gravity measurements have been finished for two dedicated drill holes, IMWDR016 and IMWDR019, and for a series of core samples from the resource infill program.
Geotechnical and Specific‑Gravity Studies
- Drilling depth: IMWDR016 to 150 m and IMWDR019 to 163 m.
- Geotechnical logging: Completed for 21 resource‑infill drill holes; core samples have been submitted for laboratory rock‑strength testing.
- Specific‑gravity measurements: Conducted on approximately 200 core samples representing laterite, saprolite, saprock, and fresh rock. These data will aid in delineating oxide, transitional (oxide ore), and sulfide ore zones.
The combined data set is intended to refine the final open‑pit design for Area C, the first production area of the Imwelo project. Management notes that the enhanced geological and structural information supports a single, continuous pit covering the entire mineralized trend, rather than multiple isolated pits.
Impact on Production Planning
Marc Cernovitch, President & CEO, stated that the new technical inputs “mark another clear step toward production at Imwelo.” The company is currently finalising pit‑shell optimisation, processing design, and evaluating potential underground mining options.
Lake Victoria Gold’s focus remains on exploring and developing gold projects across Tanzania and the broader African region. The company’s recent technical achievements are a key milestone in transitioning from exploratory studies to near‑term production at Imwelo.
