Eisai Co. Ltd. Projects Robust Leqembi® Sales Growth in FY 2028
Eisai Co. Ltd., a long‑standing player in the Japanese pharmaceutical sector, disclosed a forward‑looking sales simulation for its Alzheimer’s disease therapy Leqembi® during its Investor Relations Day in Stockholm on 25 May 2026. The presentation, made available through Eisai’s investor‑relations portal, forecasts annual sales of approximately ¥300 billion (≈ SEK 17.6 billion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2029.
The simulation is the product of a strategic partnership between Eisai and Swedish biopharma BioArctic AB. Leqembi, a humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody that targets aggregated amyloid‑β (Aβ) species, has already secured approvals in 53 countries and is under review in an additional six. The drug’s development journey has been marked by a series of regulatory milestones: a new drug application for the subcutaneous formulation was submitted to the Japanese authorities in November 2025; the National Health Care Security Administration (NHSA) of China added Leqembi to its “Commercial Insurance Innovative Drug List” in December 2025; and the U.S. FDA granted priority review to the supplemental biologics license application for the subcutaneous starting dose on 14 January 2026, with a PDUFA date of 24 August 2026.
In China, the subcutaneous formulation’s biologics license application received approval in January 2026 and was designated for priority review in February, underscoring the drug’s expanding global footprint. Meanwhile, Eisai’s Phase III AHEAD 3‑45 study, a public‑private partnership involving Biogen and the Alzheimer’s Clinical Trial Consortium, completed recruitment in October 2024 and continues to monitor lecanemab’s efficacy in individuals with preclinical Alzheimer’s disease.
Eisai’s projected ¥300 billion sales represent a significant upside relative to the company’s current market positioning. With a market capitalization exceeding ¥1.17 trillion and a price‑to‑earnings ratio of 30.51, the company’s valuation reflects investors’ confidence in its growth prospects. The forthcoming Leqembi sales, if realized, could provide a substantial boost to Eisai’s revenue streams and reinforce its standing as a key innovator in therapeutic interventions for neurodegenerative disorders.
