Standard Motor Products Inc. Expands Distribution with New Center in Shawnee, Kansas
Standard Motor Products, Inc. (NYSE: SMP), a leading manufacturer of automotive replacement parts, has announced the opening of its new national distribution center in Shawnee, Kansas. The facility, which spans 575,000 square feet, was inaugurated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 17, 2025. The event was attended by members of the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce, city leaders, and SMP leadership.
The new distribution center significantly enhances SMP’s logistics capabilities by adding over 200,000 net square feet to its distribution footprint. This expansion is strategically located to reduce transportation lead times across the United States, thereby improving service efficiency. The facility also incorporates advanced logistics technology, further optimizing distribution operations.
While the new center represents a substantial investment in SMP’s infrastructure, it also involves costs associated with operating the facility and transitioning from its previous location in Edwardsville. During this transition, there may be temporary disruptions, but the company has retained its existing workforce and management team to ensure continuity.
In addition to the distribution center expansion, SMP is engaged in exclusive negotiations with HighCo to acquire its promotion (Sogec) and marketing (BudgetBox) activities. This potential acquisition could diversify SMP’s business operations beyond its core automotive components sector.
As of June 17, 2025, SMP’s stock closed at $30.64, with a 52-week high of $35.92 and a low of $21.38. The company’s market capitalization stands at approximately $682.73 million, with a price-to-earnings ratio of 12. SMP continues to be a prominent player in the Consumer Discretionary sector, specifically within the Automobile Components industry, and is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange.
