Velo3D Inc. Joins U.S. Army Initiative to Advance Aluminum Manufacturing

FREMONT, Calif., Aug. 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ – Velo3D, Inc. (Nasdaq: VELO), a leader in additive manufacturing (AM) technology, has announced its participation in a U.S. Army initiative aimed at advancing high-throughput aluminum manufacturing for defense applications. The company is collaborating with RTX and the Raytheon Technologies Research Center (RTRC) under a program funded by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center (DEVCOM AvMC) and Manufacturing & Sustainment (M&S).

The initiative focuses on developing an optimized laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process for Aluminum CP1, a material critical to defense applications. This effort aligns with the U.S. Army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) modernization priorities, which emphasize system agility, affordability, and operational readiness.

Velo3D’s involvement leverages its large-format AM technology to create a repeatable process that can be scaled across various programs and facilities. Dr. Arun Jeldi, CEO of Velo3D, highlighted the company’s selection for this initiative due to its differentiated capabilities that address the limitations of traditional L-PBF systems. “Velo3D’s metal AM platform was selected by (DEVCOM) AvMC and M&S for its differentiated capabilities that overcome the traditional constraints of legacy L-PBF systems,” said Dr. Jeldi. “Through a fully integrated software and hardware platform that includes factory tool matching, we aim to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of aluminum manufacturing for defense purposes.”
